Man Utd v Everton - Match preview and team news

Sunday 10 February 2013

League leaders Manchester United will surely have one eye on their midweek Champions League clash with Real Madrid but will be wary of falling foul of an impressive-looking Everton side, who came to Old Trafford and secured a pulsating 4-4 draw last season that ultimately handed the title to Manchester City.

David Moyes’ men also secured a 1-0 win victory over the Red Devils on the opening day of this season thanks to an inspired performance from Marouane Fellaini, who also wrecked havoc in the United defence in the two sides’ last clash at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson can call upon Ashley Young again after the England winger missed five matches with a knee problem, while Phil Jones and Michael Carrick are also fit to take part after withdrawing from their international squads in the week.

The Toffees are confident that Marouane Fellaini will be bit after the midfielder withdrew from the Belgian national squad with a hip injury, while Phil Jagielka has returned to fitness. Full-backs Tony Hibbert and Seamus Coleman remain out, leaving Jonny Heitinga set to take the right-back role, with Jagielka and Sylvain Distin forming the central-defensive partnership.

Elsewhere, Moyes will hope Nikica Jelavic’s goal for Croatia in the week will boost the striker’s confidence after a barren spell in front of goal.
