Benitez wants to bring trophies to Chelsea

Rafael Benitez believes he is the right man to manage Chelsea and has vowed to bring success to Stamford Bridge despite remaining deeply unpopular with a large and vocal section of the club’s support, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Benitez added that he also feels he can help the group of players at the club to improve, praising the quality of the individuals at his disposal and predicting big things from them in future.

I think this group of players has great, great potential. That is more clear now in my head than it was when I arrived. Their possibility to grow is even bigger than I suspected,” Benitez said.

The average age of the squad is fine. The potential is there and the group of players is keen to learn. They are very good professionals and they are working hard and they are keen to learn and for me that is a big advantage.

Some of them need more confidence and some more experience in the Premier League. They can compete now but they can be even better,” he added.

The former Liverpool manager was appointed to replace Roberto Di Matteo in November but was not a choice welcomed by much of the Blues’ faithful, who could not forgive the Spaniard for antagonistic comments made when he was at the Anfield helm, nor did they want Di Matteo to leave the club in the first place.

Having won the Champions League while at Liverpool, Benitez rejected suggestions that he no longer has the hunger for trophies he once did. “My ambition to win trophies is stronger than ever,” Benitez said.

People may think 'he has won a lot of trophies and maybe he is not thinking about winning any more'. But it is the opposite. Because you have won and won in three countries, you want to show that you can carry on winning trophies.
