Bale is special but Tottenham are not a one-man team, insists new boy Holtby

Recent Tottenham Hotspur arrival Lewis Holtby has joined the chorus praising Gareth Bale following the Wales international’s recent performances but the Germany midfielder, who moved to White Hart Lane from Schalke in January, has insisted his new side are not a one-man team, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Lewis Holtby and Gareth Bale

Bale scored both goals as Spurs beat Newcastle United on Saturday, his fourth and fifth goals in his last four games for club and country, and came close to a hat-trick on a number of occasions. He was twice foiled by Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul while a third effort was skewed high over the crossbar via Bale’s right foot.

Holtby, who made his first Tottenham start against Newcastle, conceded the importance of Bale to the side but added there were a number of other players just as crucial to the cause of Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas and the club as a whole.

Gareth is a world-class player, one of the best in the world I think. What he is producing week in week out is fantastic. But you have to give the credit to the others in what is a great team,” Holtby said.

Of course Gareth scores goals, he is perfect for us. But you have every player in the team who works hard for the club. You see Hugo Lloris in goal. The defenders put their bodies into every shot. Everyone is working really hard, that’s the key of the game. To have a player like Bale makes the difference,” he added.
