Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be taking a strong side to Russia for their Europa League clash with Zenit St Petersburg on Thursday, signaling their intention to come away from the game with a positive result.

Star names Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard are set to feature, although two of the Reds January signings, Philippe Coutinho from Inter, and Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, are both ineligible and cannot make the trip. Despite the journey, thousands of Reds fans are thought to have Liverpool football tickets for the Stadion Petrovskij.

The 20 man squad also includes 19-year-old Conor Coady - the midfielder is captain of the U19 Reds side, and made his Liverpool debut in this competition, during the Group stage win over Anzhi.

Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre revealed that the club have written to Zenit amid concerns that racism may be directed at Reds players, after Zenit's largest fan group, Landscrona, demanded that the club refrain from signing black players.

With many football tickets sold in the away end, Liverpool fans will be looking to make their support heard above the St Petersburg crowd.
