Tottenham winger Bale plays down Real Madrid gossip

Gareth Bale has insisted he sees his future at Tottenham Hotspur despite the recurring transfer gossip linking him with a move to Real Madrid, ESPN has reported, as the Wales international admits he is in the best form of his life after scoring twice in Spurs’ Europa League win over Lyon.

Gareth Bale celebrates scoring against Lyon

Bale netted two free-kicks against the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring just before half-time with the first and converting the second late in injury time, either side of a Samuel Umtiti strike for the visitors. Bale has now scored Tottenham’s last four goals, having also grabbed a brace against Newcastle United in the league last weekend - the first goal of which was also from a free-kick.

Having revealed that his potency from dead ball situations is the result of hours spent on the training ground, Bale added: “It's probably the best I've been playing so far in my career.

I'm enjoying my football and the team's playing well, which obviously makes it easier for me. I've just got to keep my head down, keep working hard, keep trying to keep my form.

Bale went on to say that he still felt he had room for improvement and praised his teammates for helping him achieve his recent standard. He added that he was not thinking of life away from White Hart Lane having been asked about interest from abroad and Real Madrid shortly after Thursday’s fixture.

He said: “ I'm not looking too far into the future. All I'm concentrating on is each game, trying to work my best for the team and seeing what I can. I don't take too much notice, I'm concentrating on every game as it comes and just hoping I can keep my form going.
