Zabaleta backs Man City to return to winning ways

Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta believes the Premier League champions have what it takes to get their form back on track and make a fight of the title race again, Sky Sports has reported.

City lost 3-1 to Southampton in their last outing and, after Manchester United beat 2-0 Everton 24 hours later, fell 12 points behind their local rivals at the top of the table. City’s troubles come after beating United to the league last season on goal difference, their first title in more than 40 years.

Championship side Leeds United are City’s next opponents in the FA Cup on Sunday and Zabaleta feels City need to show their battling qualities against the Yorkshire club, and carry that spirit into the rest of the season.

We need to stand together, battle and show what we are really capable of. We will aim to get back to winning ways at the weekend in the FA Cup and that is our immediate focus now,” Zabaleta said.

The versatile Argentine also feels the week-long break between the Southampton loss and the Leeds fixture will be beneficial too. He added: “ Sometimes after a game like Southampton you need a few days to think about what went wrong and why, and then come back stronger and I believe that's what will happen.

We will learn from this defeat and use the deflated feeling we had afterwards as an inspiration to maybe try and re-discover the sort of spirit we had last season.
