Wilshere can inspire Arsenal against Bayern Munich, insists Arteta
Mikel Arteta has said his Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere can make the difference for the Gunners when they come up against runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the Daily Mirror has reported.
The sides meet on Tuesday and could barely be going into the game in more contrasting form. Bayern, playing last Friday, maintained their 12-point lead at the top of the German league by beating Wolfsburg 2-0 away from home. Arsenal, meanwhile, were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship Blackburn Rovers and are fifth in the Premier League, 21 points adrift of leaders Manchester United.
Arteta however believes that Wilshere has the potential to be a match winner for the Gunners against the Bavarian team, stressing that while he does not want to ratchet up the pressure even further on Wilshere, the qualities he has shown lately are exactly the sort Arsenal need against Bayern.
“Jack has been showing his class and been tremendous. We don't want to put too much pressure on him. The character he has shown coming back in the last few months after a long injury and get back to his fitness level is amazing. He is a big winner and we want him to show that,” Arteta said.
He added: “ We are very positive and can't wait for tomorrow to come and give a good performance. It gives you extra motivation because you are facing top players and a top club and you want to show how good you are against them.”
