Benteke agent encourages interest from Premier League
The agent of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has welcomed interest from Premier League clubs in his client, with the Daily Mirror claiming Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase to sign the Belgium international at the end of the season.
Benteke moved to Villa Park last summer, the Midlands club paying Genk £7m for his services, and he has hit the ground running. Benteke thus far has 15 goals to his name this season, 11 of them coming in the Premier League, attracting attention from a number of interested parties.
Villa manager Paul Lambert has said it would take a hefty fee for Villa to consider selling the player, but the Mirror believes Spurs would not be put off by a weighty price tag, having had the paucity of options in Andre Villas-Boas’ squad laid bare by the injury to Jermain Defoe and the uninspired performances of Emmanuel Adebayor.
Benteke’s agent, Erik Kismet said, is quoted as saying: “It is normal that if you go to a club and do well, then other clubs will show an interest. Christian has shown that he can play in England so why not take the step up to the next level if the opportunity is there?
“At the end of the season, interested clubs will talk to Villa, but it has to be right for Villa, the buying club and Christian. If all three parties are agreeable, something could happen, but right now his focus is on Villa, helping them stay in the Premier League.”
