Wednesday 20 February 2013

Manchester United's Phil Jones looks set to miss the second leg of his club's Champions League tie with Real Madrid, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Phil Jones receiving treatment

The defender picked up an ankle injury after a robust challenge from Jobi McAnuff in Monday's 2-0 FA Cup win over Reading at Old Trafford and left the stadium on crutches. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already ruled Jones out of United's match against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Jones will now find out the full extent of the damage when he undergoes a scan later this week - a first scan was unsuccessful, with the swelling around the ex-Blackburn defender's ankle too great.

The England international was part of the XI for the first leg, helping his teammates deal with the combined threats of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria, as the Red Devils returned home with a 1-1 draw. The second leg of the tie takes place on March 5 at Old Trafford.
