Theo Walcott believes Arsene Wenger is the right man to be Arsenal manager and has called on his teammates to react to the defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in the right way - by beating Aston Villa in the Premier League, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The Gunners have suffered two defeats in the past week, against Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup and Bayern in the Champions League, both at home, with the pressure on Wenger’s shoulders increasing accordingly.

But with a third home game in seven days approaching, Walcott has spoken in support of Wenger and insisted the Arsenal players must react to the double disappointment in the best possible way - by working hard in training and picking up three points against Aston Villa.

We've got the best man in the job to get our heads back to where they should be,” Walcott said. He added: “We need to react in a positive way straight away. We can't be down in the dumps in training. Everybody needs to be alive and alert, recover well. We've got a good run in the Premier League - we can't forget that.

Walcott continued: “We've had some good points, very important points, so we've just got to start believing again. I think that's one of the main things - believe in how good we are, because we didn't show it against Bayern.

Arsenal are currently fifth in the Premier League, four points short of Tottenham Hotspur, who play West Ham on Monday evening and hold the final Champions League qualification place. Arsenal have never failed to qualify for the Champions League in Wenger’s long tenure as manager.
