Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he is excited by the prospect of taking his Tottenham Hotspur side to play Serie A giants Inter in the Europa League, BBC Sport has reported.

The tie was set up by virtue of Mousa Dembele’s last-gasp goal for Spurs against Lyon, sending the Premier League side through to the next stage with a 3-2 aggregate win. The Belgium midfielder struck in the final few minutes, with Lyon poised to progress on the away goals rule.

Inter, meanwhile, had an altogether more comfortable experience, winning 3-0 away to Romanian side Cluj, taking the game 5-0 on aggregate. They will meet Tottenham on March 7, with White Hart Lane the site of the first match. The return leg is played a week later at the San Siro.

Tottenham and Inter last met in the group stage of the Champions League in 2010, when Gareth Bale scored a hat-trick in a 4-3 Inter win in Italy and then create two of Tottenham’s three goals in a 3-1 win in the second bout between the sides.

Villas-Boas said: “We just want to recreate a special night everyone remembers at the club. Going through against Inter and Lyon [would] put you in a good place to win the competition.
