Ferguson wants consistency from Man Utd winger Nani

Sir Alex Ferguson has told Manchester United winger Luis Nani that he must perform to a consistently high level if he is to hold down a place in the Premier League leaders’ team, BBC Sport has reported.

Luis Nani

Ferguson lavished praise upon the Portugal international, declaring him to be one of the most talented players in Europe, and stressing he wants Nani to remain at Old Trafford. The club and the player are locked in contract negotiations, with Nani having around 18 months left on his current deal, but a lack of first team football is thought to be part of the reason Nani is hesitant in putting pen to paper.

[Nani]has a year-and-a-half left and we'd prefer to keep him. He wants guaranteed first-team football and will get it if he plays like he did [against Reading]. It's up to the boy himself.” Ferguson said.

He continued: “Nani is definitely one of the best match-winners in Europe. He scores incredible goals. He has an incredible talent for winning matches. We would like him to stay.

Nani has been linked with moves to both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, however, having been a United player since 2007, moving from Sporting Lisbon. In that time he has made more than 200 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League title three times and the Champions League once, among other prizes.
