Gareth Bale believes Tottenham Hotspur are now the biggest club in north London, eclipsing local rivals Arsenal, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The Spurs winger makes the claim ahead of next week's clash with the Gunners - which is made even more vital by the ongoing race to secure fourth place, and Champions League qualification, in the Premier League.

And the Welshman says that Andre Villas-Boas' men have now overtaken Arsene Wenger's side, particularly in terms of ability on the pitch.

Bale said: "‘Over the past few seasons we have closed that gap and I think now we have overtaken them on the pitch. I think we have the stronger squad."

"Hopefully we can continue to do that off the pitch as well, with the new stadium that is being built. But on the pitch and as a team now we are a lot more consistent as a club we’re moving in the right direction."

Before the north London derby, Tottenham travel to West Ham United on Monday night, hoping to extend their lead the gap between themselves and Arsenal to four points.
