Monday 25 February 2013

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has talked of the evolution of his side over recent seasons, and insists his team have maintained their identity through recent changes.

Pulis has been in charge at the Britannia Stadium for six years, winning promotion to the Premier League, and achieving an FA Cup final spot in 2011.

And despite coming under criticism for their direct style of play at times, Pulis believes his side have matured into a better footballing side, while maintaining a direct style:

"I think we’ve grown in terms of the quality of player that we have brought into the team – we don’t have as many rough edges now.

"We still try and play through the pitch as quickly as we can and we still try and back it up as quickly as we can - that will never change.

"We have a certain identity, we’ve tried to sign players who fit that identity and we mustn’t get away from that because it is an approach that has taken us so far and can take us even further."

Stoke are currently on a disappointing run of form, that has seen the Potters win two out of the last 11, most recently a 1-0 away defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
