Everton v Oldham - FA Cup preview and team news

Tuesday 26 February 2013

Everton will be confident of seeing off Oldham at the second time of asking at Goodison Park and secure a second consecutive place in the FA Cup quarter finals. Indeed, with a clash against lowly Wigan Athletic to come, the Toffees will know that victory over League 1 opposition on Tuesday night would put them within touching distance of yet another trip to Wembley, their fourth since the stadium’s conception.

Goodison Park

David Moyes men have seen their charge for a Champions League place falter in recent weeks after morale-sapping defeats to first Manchester United and then more disappointingly at Norwich so the Scot will surely be putting even more store by the FA Cup.

Thus, few changes are expected to be made from the loss at Carrow Road on Saturday though Kevin Mirallas should come back in for either the out-of-form Nikica Jelavic or Steven Naismith, while Phil Neville and Jonny Heitinga are also pushing for recalls. Victor Anichebe, a goalscorer in the first game at Boundary Park is struggling with a knock while Tony Hibbert is still out after undergoing calf surgery.

Oldham have won both their league games since the 2-2 draw with Everton to ease their League 1 relegation worries and will travel to Goodison Park with no fears, particularly with the knowledge that they indeed won on their last trip to the Stadium in 2008.

The Latics have doubts over James Tarkowski, James Wesolowski and Carl Winchester, the latter two struggling with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively while he must also decide whether to start with Matt Smith, who scored twice against Liverpool as well as the injury time equaliser against Everton from the substitutes bench.
