West Ham midfielder Joe Cole believes Gareth Bale could one day be the greatest player the Premier League has ever seen, after the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder scored twice in victory over the Hammers to take Spurs third in the table, according to ESPN.

Bale scored the first and last goals of the game, netting in the first-half and the dying seconds of the game to help Tottenham to a 3-2 victory. Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the other goal for the White Hart Lane club, with Cole adding to an Andy Carroll penalty to give the home side parity until Bale’s late intervention.

The Wales international’s second goal was a long-range effort that curled away from Hammers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and left West Ham manager Sam Allardyce crediting Bale as the difference between the two sides. The brace was Bale’s seventh and eighth goals in his last six games.

Cole, who returned to West Ham on a free transfer from Liverpool in January, said: “ You can't help the goal from Bale - it's world class and he is in that kind of form at the moment. He could be up there with the best players in the Premier League's history.

He has still got some work to do, but he has certainly got the potential to be up there with the (Cristiano) Ronaldos and the (Thierry) Henrys that this country has seen. He is great to watch, but he's a nightmare to play against unfortunately.
