Jack Rodwell has insisted that he will prove he belongs at Manchester City after impressing in the Premier League champions’ 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, Sky Sports has reported.

Rodwell moved to the Etihad Stadium from Everton last summer but has struggled to hold down a place in Roberto Mancini’s side, spending much of the season on the sidelines through injury. A hamstring problem has meant Rodwell has made only 10 appearances for the club, with his last start for City prior to the weekend coming in September.

The England international however felt his display against Chelsea was his best in a City shirt so far, but vowed he can do better. Rodwell added: “The team performance was brilliant as well which makes it even better. I was in a few good positions and probably should have scored a couple, but I was in the right positions.

I was probably fresh because I haven't played. I've been training really hard and I feel stronger than I was before. I've had a lot of injuries. I'm still young, so I'm still maturing bodily. I feel as though the fans have seen a little bit more of me (against Chelsea) but there's still a lot more to come in my opinion.

Rodwell, a graduate of the Everton academy, made 109 appearances for the Toffees, scoring eight goals, and won his first England cap last season as Roy Hodgson’s side beat Spain 1-0 at Wembley in November, Rodwell coming on as a second-half substitute. He added his second and so far final cap a few days later, starting and playing an hour as England beat Sweden by the same score line.
