Tottenham's Parker upset by boos from West Ham fans

Tottenham Hotspur’s former West Ham midfielder Scott Parker has revealed he was disappointed by the reception he received upon his return to Upton Park when the sides met in the Premier League on Monday, Teamtalk has reported.

Parker spent four years with West Ham, making more than 100 appearances, and was named the club’s player of the year three times. He also won the Football Writers’ Association footballer of the year award in his last season at the club for his performances as West Ham were relegated, having moved to the club from Newcastle in 2007.

Tottenham won the match 3-2 thanks to a Gareth Bale double and a goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson, with West Ham’s goal coming courtesy of a Joe Cole effort and a penalty converted by Andy Carroll - with Parker the player penalised for a foul in the area.

Parker, who has also played for Charlton Athletic and Chelsea, said: “I didn't expect the West Ham fans to boo me and obviously it was a little bit upsetting. I don't know why (they did it). I don't know if it's because I went to their local rivals... I'm not sure, but I just would have liked to think that maybe I would have got a better reception after what I did in my time here.

I loved (Upton Park), the fans, and I loved the club. I had four fantastic years here and it will always be a club with a massive place in my heart. I was looking forward to coming back and I couldn't wait to go out there and play so I was disappointed (to be booed).
