Chelsea skipper Terry wouldn’t be respected says Marsh

QPR legend Rodney Marsh claims Chelsea club captain John Terry wouldn’t cut it as a manager because the players will never respect him, according to the Daily Mail.

John Terry

The former Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundit, who won nine international caps for England in the early 1970s, believes Terry’s indiscretions in his private life mean he will struggle to win over the dressing room at Stamford Bridge.

Terry has been quoted at 50-1 by some bookmakers to be the next Chelsea boss, following Rafa Benitez’s outburst at the fans and the Blues hierarchy following FA Cup progress on Wednesday night away at Middlesbrough.

Marsh told talkSPORT: “I would be shocked if John Terry took over at Chelsea. I don’t think he’ll ever make it as a football manager.

“The history he’s got and the problems he’s had with Chelsea and England (would make it hard).

“I don’t think you can expect players to listen when you’re telling them not to do things you’ve been doing all your life.”

Terry was centre of rumours this week of a training ground bust-up with Benitez following last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to current champions Manchester City, slipping the west Londoners to fourth and 19 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.

He retired from international football last September over the FA inquiry into his racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand, which saw the ex-England skipper fined £220,000 and banned for four matches.
