The Stadium of Light plays host to a clash between two sides who are both unlikely to be relegated this season but equally, are unlikely to make much of an impression on the top half of the table.

However, currently sitting only five points above the drop zone, Martin O’Neill’s hosts are without a win since mid-January and have only taken from one point from their last four encounters to leave the Black Cats desperately seeking for three points against Fulham just to give them a bit of breathing space.

Captain Lee Cattermole remains absent with a knee injury, while on-loan full-back Danny Rose is also out with a recurring hamstring problem. Elsewhere, Danny Graham is expected to continue up front partnering Steven Fletcher, who scored in reverse fixture earlier this season, which saw Sunderland come away from Craven Cottage with an impressive 3-1 win.

Fulham have taken seven points from the last 12 available to thoroughly ease their relegation worries and indeed, manager Martin Jol will now be looking at making inroads into the top half, a welcome feeling after awkwardly looking over his shoulder for much of this season.

The Dutchman could have Simon Davies available after almost 12 months out with a knee injury, while Kerim Frei and Kieran Richardson are also fit after recovering from pelvis and calf injuries respectively. However, Mahamadou Diarra is out with a knee problem.
