Wenger unconcerned over Arsenal takeover

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claims to have no worries about the talk of an alleged takeover at the Emirates Stadium, ESPN reports.

Reports in Sunday’s newspapers linked an Arab consortium with a £1.5bn bid to take over control of the North London side. The report prompted the club to release a statement, insisting that majority shareholder Stan Kroenke had no interest in selling his share in Arsenal.

Kroenke holds a 66.83% share in the club, following his £430m takeover in April 2011. 29.96% is taken by Uzbekistani oligarch Alisher Usmanov, who is also similarly reluctant to cash in on the club. Wenger has more pressing concerns on the field, with his side seven points behind North London rivals Tottenham following their 2-1 defeat in Sunday’s derby at White Hart Lane.

Wenger was asked on the takeover issue in his post-match press conference, but would not be drawn on the issue. The Frenchman said: “If people are ready to invest their money, it means the club is not moving too much in a bad direction. I am nothing to do with it. I focus on my job, financial is down to the directors, shareholders and the owners”.
