Tottenham boss Villas-Boas warns Inter over Bale improvement

Andre Villas-Boas has told Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League opponents Inter that Gareth Bale is a much better player now than he was when the sides met in the Champions League in 2010, ESPN has reported.

Gareth Bale against Inter in 2010

Bale scored a hat-trick in a 4-3 Tottenham defeat at San Siro, and in the return fixture at White Hart Lane left Inter full-back Maicon for dead in another memorable performance. Spurs won 3-1 to go top of the Champions League group, with Bale creating two goals.

Villas-Boas said: “I think Gareth has evolved as player. He is even more threatening now…two years on, he plays in a different position. He's become a different player; a bigger player and a more complete player.

He's the kind of player who can determine the outcome of a game, as we've seen in recent matches.

Bale has scored 20 goals in 34 games for Tottenham this season, netting against Arsenal in last weekend’s North London derby and scoring twice in the match before that against West Ham, including a spectacular last-minute winner from long-range. The Wales international has scored 10 goals in his last eight games.

Inter go into the Europa League quarter-final suffering from something of an injury crisis, with the Serie A club forced to include six young players in the squad that has travelled to England. They are currently fourth in Serie A, a point behind their local rivals Milan, who hold third, Italy’s final Champions League qualification position.
