QPR wage bill doubles

Queens Park Rangers' wage budget more than doubled in the year ending in May 2012, according to Sky Sports.

QPR owner Tony Fernandes

The club's latest set of accounts revealed that the Hoops' wage bill was at £56m at the end of the 2011/12 season - compared with just under £28million a year earlier.

The eye-watering figures are likely to be even more shocking this year as chairman Tony Fernandes splashed the cash in the last two transfer windows - bringing in the likes of Park Ji-Sung and Julio Cesar.

Fernandes said: "A critical driver of any club's value is its presence in the Premier League and the club achieved its key objective for the 2011-12 season, by successfully securing its Premier League status for the coming season.

"The financial results reflect the club's focus on on-pitch success. There are a number of potential risks and uncertainties that could have a material impact on the group's long-term performance. These risks and uncertainties are monitored by the board on a regular basis."

The wage increase was offset by the club's rise in turnover, which increased from £34.6m to £74m.

QPR, enduring another tough season this year, currently prop up the rest of the Premier League and sit four points away from safety.
