Ronaldo hits out at Ferguson
Legendary Brazil goalscorer Ronaldo has hit out at Sir Alex Ferguson’s jibes about his weight, according to ESPN. Ferguson called him ‘fat’ in the build-up to the Champions League meeting between Manchester United and Ronaldo’s former team Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
The 36-year-old, who is still holds the record for the most goals in World Cup tournaments, retired two years ago after a catalogue of injuries and issues with his weight.
The ex-Barcelona and Inter striker scored a hat-trick on Madrid’s previous visit before Tuesday’s showdown in 2003, and is currently working as an ambassador on Brazil’s 2014 World Cup team.
Speaking at a publicity event, Ronaldo believed Ferguson had been disrespectful towards his appearance. He said: “Real Madrid shut his mouth for me. It was a lack of respect. A professional of his age, an English Sir, should not be so disrespectful. It was not classy.”
Ronaldo went on to say: “I have no words for this gentleman, except that I hope the team he manages always loses.”
Ronaldo scored 62 goals for Brazil and was capped 98 times between 1994 and 2011. He won two World Cups, and found the net over 400 times in his club career, which also included spells with Milan, PSV Eindhoven and with Brazilian sides Cruzeiro and Corinthians.
