Thursday 07 March 2013

Tottenham host Inter Milan in North London hoping for a repeat of the last time the two sides met, in November 2010 when Spurs beat the then European Champions by three goals to one. The game also marks the first time Andre Villas-Boas faces his old employers, with whom he worked under Jose Mourinho.

White Hart Lane

Tottenham come into the game on an excellent run, suffering just one defeat in the last 16, in the FA Cup against Leeds United. The run also includes five wins from the last six matches - the draw from those matches coming the last time Spurs played in the Europa League, away to Lyon, thanks to Moussa Dembele's last minute equaliser.

Inter meanwhile have lost just one of their last six games, and came through their last Europa draw comfortably, recording a 5-0 aggregate victory over FC Cluj. The Nerazzurri have been inconsistent this season under young manager Andrea Stramaccioni, and currently sit fourth in Serie A.

Spurs are set to welcome back Jermain Defoe to the starting line-up - the England striker has been out of action for the best part of a month with an ankle problem, but after coming off the bench in the weekend's victory over Arsenal, Defoe is set to replace the injured Emmanuel Adebayor.

As has become standard for Europa League competition, Brad Friedel will replace Hugo Lloris in goal.

Inter will welcome back Antonio Cassano, fresh from an argument with his manager that saw him miss the weekend clash with Catania. With first choice defensive pair Walter Samuel and Andrea Ranocchia injured, Juan and Christian Chivu should start, while Rodrigo Palacio continues in the striker position in the long-term absence of Diego Milito.
