Allardyce contract waiting on West Ham transfer assurance

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce will wait to discover details of the transfer budget to be made available to him this summer before committing his future to the Premier League club, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Sam Allardyce

Allardyce’s contract with the Hammers expires this summer and he has yet to agree a new deal with the club, and will only do so once he learns the size of the transfer kitty he can expect with which to improve the squad. Specifically, Allardyce is said to be concerned over the cost of replacing the club’s strike force, with four of West Ham’s first team strikers expected to leave.

Carlton Cole, Marouane Chamakh, Wellington Silva and Modibo Maiga are all expected to be on the move - Cole when his contract expires, Chamakh and Silva as their loans come to an end and Maiga after growing unhappy at featuring rarely in the side.

The future of Andy Carroll is also up in the air as West Ham have not yet decided if they are to take up the option of signing the on-loan Liverpool striker on a permanent basis. It will cost the Upton Park club £17m to do so, around half what Liverpool paid Newcastle for Carroll in January 2011.

Should the players concerned all leave, Allardyce would have only Ricardo Vaz Te as a senior striker, although the Portuguese is more naturally a winger.

West Ham are currently 12th in the Premier League table, nine points clear of the relegation zone in their first season back in the top flight after spending a year in the Championship.
