Arsenal target Mattia Perin

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking to replace Wojciech Szczesny with Mattia Perin, according to the Italian goalkeeper’s agent, The Daily Mail reports.

Mattia Perin

The 20 year old has impressed on loan at Pescara from Genoa in Serie A and has thought to have attracted interest from some top clubs in Europe. Szczesny has been out of sorts this season and with speculation surrounding his future, Perin could be the replacement that Wenger desires. Matteo Roggi, Perin’s agent, has stated that Barcelona and AC Milan are interested in the goalkeeper, but Arsenal also have a view to make a transfer.

Genoa will welcome Perin back at the end of his loan and there is a mutual intention for him to spend at least one season at the Serie A side.

Roggi said: “Just a month ago, we extended his contract until 2017 and Mattia’s cost is at least 20 million euros. I am 99 per cent sure he will be Genoa’s goalkeeper next season.”

Wenger already has a relatively young goalkeeper in the 22 year old Szczesny, but is dissatisfied with how poor his defence and goalkeeper have been this season. Simon Mignolet at Sunderland could be another solution, if a deal for Perin fails to materialise.
