Sunday 10 March 2013

He has been dubbed as ‘the African Neymar,’ and Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is winning many fans for his scoring record.

The Daily Mail believes four high-profile Premier League scouts have been sent to record regular reports on his progress, with Arsenal the latest to shown an interest.

Former Gunners title winner Gilles Grimandi is a trusted part of Arsene Wenger’s scouting team, and he went to see the Gabon player score again in the Ligue 1 game with Rennes on Friday night.

The match ended honours even in a 2-2 stalemate, but Aubameyang was the star and notched his 16th goal of the season along the way.

The 23-year-old was subject to a bid from Newcastle United in the January transfer window, but their bid of around £10m was rejected by the French side.

Saint-Etienne are hoping to hold out for a £15m bid for a player they purchased from AC Milan in December 2011.

Chelsea and Tottenham are the other Premier League clubs keeping a watching brief.
