Wenger hopes for momentous Arsenal comeback against Bayern Munich
Arsene Wenger believes that if his Arsenal players can overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first-leg when they meet Bayern Munich in the second-leg of their Champions League second round fixture, then it will be a performance to spark the club into life for the rest of the season and beyond, ESPN has reported.
It is two years since Bayern Munich conceded three goals at the Allianz Arena and they have only let in 10 goals in 25 Bundesliga games this season - Arsenal need to score three times and not concede if they are to progress, having lost the first meeting at the Emirates Stadium.
Goals from Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Mario Mandzukic gave Bayern, last season’s beaten Champions League finalists, a commanding lead, with Arsenal’s goal coming from former Bayern forward Lukas Podolski. Podolski is however one of a number of Arsenal players expected to miss the return bout.
Wenger said: “ I am convinced that if this team can find a big game, with a big win, you will see a completely different animal. This season we have fought to find that in the big games and we have another opportunity tomorrow night and I hope the team takes this chance.”
