A goal from captain Danny Shittu was enough to give Millwall victory over fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers and put the Lions into an FA Cup semi-final with Premier League strugglers Wigan Athletic, Sky Sports has reported.

The centre-back headed the only goal of the game just before half-time, converting a Chris Taylor corner, with Blackburn’s prolific Jordan Rhodes unable to reply for his side. The win puts Millwall into the latter stages of the competition for the first time since they reached the final under Dennis Wise in 2004, when they were beaten 4-0 by Manchester United.

Wigan will be Millwall’s opponents after seeing off fellow top flight side Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, scoring three goals in less than four minutes to clinch a first-ever semi-final appearance.

The make-up of the other semi-final has yet to be determined as Manchester United and Chelsea await their replay, having drawn 2-2 at Old Trafford in the first meeting between the sides. The winners of the tie play Manchester City.
