Aston Villa a good fit for Eriksen, says Laursen
A Different League understands that former Aston Villa captain Martin Laursen feels Christian Eriksen should reject the advances of the Premier League’s biggest clubs and consider a move to Villa Park, if Paul Lambert’s side remain in the top flight.
Eriksen, currently with Dutch giants Ajax, has been the subject of much speculation, with a number of Premier League teams said to be monitoring his progress in the Netherlands. Former Charlton midfielder Claus Jensen believes Eriksen would fit in well at Liverpool, but Laursen told Danish language website langebolde.dk that Eriksen should bide his time before he leaves Amsterdam.
“In my opinion Eriksen is in no rush. He's playing in the Champions League and Europa League with Ajax, winning national titles,” Laursen said. “He is one of their most important players now, so it will do him good to stay for a little while yet.
“[Eriksen] must now score some goals, play well Sunday after Sunday and then make sure he's noticed more in the national side. Then his time will come.”
And when that moment arrives, Laursen believes the 21-year-old Eriksen does not need to get ahead of himself then either, backing a move to a lower-ranked team rather than one of the Champions League contenders. That way, Laursen argues, Eriksen could ease into English football and try his luck further up the table once he is accustomed to the Premier League.
“I don't think he should pick one of the big clubs in the Premier League even if he got the opportunity,” Laursen confirmed. “It would be much better going to a club a bit smaller. For example Aston Villa, if they stay up.
“A mid-table club would be best. If the money was there perhaps it could be good for him to join a club like Swansea, a place where he'd be allowed to impress and then he could take the next step from there.”
