Southampton v Liverpool - Match preview and team news

Saturday 16 March 2013

Liverpool look to maintain their late push for a European place with victory over struggling Southampton at St. Mary’s.

St. Mary’s

The Saints have one win in their last seven fixtures since Mauricio Pochettino took over from Nigel Adkins. That win was a spectacular one over champions Manchester City, but Saints are four points above the drop zone.

Pochettino could see the return of Daniel Fox and Steven Davis, as well as January signing Vegard Forren, who is edging closer to his debut.

Brendan Rodgers’ side beat Tottenham 3-2 last weekend and have now scored 21 goals in their last seven Premier League fixtures. Liverpool are also unbeaten in their last three away games and are closing down fifth placed Arsenal, just two points behind the Gunners.

Pepe Reina is back in training and could be recalled following a thigh injury. Joe Allen is expected to feature once again, despite being told shoulder surgery will occur in the near future.
