Wigan vs Newcastle - Match preview and team news

Wigan look to pull themselves to within three points of escaping the relegation zone with victory over a Newcastle side full of confidence after their Europa League late show against Anzhi.

DW Stadium

The Latics were impressive in the FA Cup away at Everton and secured their first FA Cup semi-final, but their league form has been nothing to celebrate. Two wins at the DW Stadium is the worst home record in the top five divisions in England and Wigan only have one win in their last eight.

Roberto Martinez could be without winger Callum McManaman, who suffered an ankle injury at Goodison Park. Ryo Miyaichi, on-loan from Arsenal, is also out with damaged ankle ligaments and requires surgery.

Papiss Cisse’s last-gasp header secured Newcastle a place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and victory away at Wigan could see them move into the top half of the table. Alan Pardew’s side only have one win away from St. James’ Park this season and making that two would completely kill any remaining relegation fears.

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye suffered a groin problem in the Europa League and could miss out, along with winger Hatem Ben Arfa, who will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring problem. Striker Shola Ameobi is back fit, but is expected to be on the bench behind Cisse.
