Sunderland vs Norwich - Match preview and team news

By Bryan Waters

Sunday 17 March 2013

Sunderland have only taken two points from their last six fixtures and will be desperate for victory against a Norwich side in similarly poor form.

Stadium of Light

The Black Cats have not won in eight and have slipped from 8th to 16th in the league table. Martin O’Neill knows that his side face Manchester United, Chelsea and a Tyne-Wear derby with Newcastle in their next three outings, so a win over the Canaries is imperative.

Danny Rose is expected to be available, despite a hamstring injury, but James McClean is a doubt following illness. O’Neill also welcomed back Connor Wickham this week, after his loan spell with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday ended.

Norwich have only been beaten once in their last six fixtures, but it is only one victory in 12 for Chris Hughton’s side. They have failed to score in six of their last eight league games and have been in freefall, currently 14th in the Premier League table.

Hughton is without winger Anthony Pilkington, who has a hamstring injury suffered in the 0-0 draw with Southampton last weekend. Andrew Surman, Alexander Tettey and John Ruddy are all injured for Norwich also and the Canaries have earned just one point from their last five away games.
