Arsenal quash rumours Wilshere's season is over

Tuesday 19 March 2013

Arsenal have denied speculation that Jack Wilshere’s season has ended early due to injury, insisting they expect the midfielder to be fit to play Premier League strugglers Reading later in March, ESPN has reported.

Jack Wilshere

Wilshere has missed Arsenal’s last few games and was ruled out of England’s World Cup qualification double-header against San Marino and Montenegro due to injury, and having spent almost a year-and-a-half out injured concerns were raised that the 21-year-old was facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Gunners have rejected such speculation, however, with a spokesman insisting Wilshere would be available again soon. “Nothing has changed in Jack's recovery, there's no setback or further damage to his ankle and no concern about any long-term problems,” the spokesman said.

Jack was told to rest and we are still on course for him to resume training and be available for selection for the home game against Reading.

Wilshere previously suffered with a long-running ankle injury and is currently absent with a similar problem on the other ankle. Manager Arsene Wenger took the decision to do without Wilshere for the time being in an effort to prevent the current problem degenerating further after the experience of the original injury.
