Arsenal line up shock move for Chelsea goalkeeper Cech

Arsenal will attempt to prise Petr Cech away from Chelsea, the Daily Mail has claimed, after Arsene Wenger ran out of patience with current first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The Gunners are said to have drawn up a six-man shortlist of goalkeepers to potentially replace the Pole, who has already lost his place in the side to compatriot Lukasz Fabianski. But Wenger is examining other alternatives, with Cech joined by Michel Vorm, Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes, Asmir Begovic and Rene Adler as contenders to take the gloves.

It has been suggested that Chelsea could turn to Thibaut Courtois, the Belgium goalkeeper currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, in favour of Cech, potentially clearing the way for Cech to move across London to the Emirates Stadium. Courtois joined Chelsea from Genk in 2011 but has yet to play for the Blues, having moved immediately on loan to Atleti.

The Mail concedes Chelsea would be unlikely to sell Cech to Arsenal but contends Courtois could still replace the long-serving Czech Republic international as first choice at Stamford Bridge. Cech moved to Chelsea from Ligue 1 club Rennes in 2004.
