Everton captain Neville to be offered England U-21 coaching role
Everton captain Phil Neville is under consideration for a coaching role with the England Under-21 side at this summer’s European Championships, the Daily Mail has reported.
Neville has already served on manager Stuart Pearce’s coaching staff once before, taking a berth for the qualifier against Belgium in February 2012, and could join Pearce for the tournament this summer in Israel.
The Football Association have made it a priority to offer experience to budding coaches, and are keen to include veteran former players in future coaching set-ups. Neville, 36, was capped 59 times by the senior England side and recently played his 500th Premier League game. His older brother Gary is on the staff of England manager Roy Hodgson.
Neville began his playing career at Manchester United, moving to Everton in the summer of 2005, playing more than 300 games for the Toffees, many of them as captain, having played almost 400 for United.
