In-form winger Gareth Bale should recover in time to face Scotland in a World Cup qualifier on Friday, despite sitting out a Wales training session, says ESPN.

Gareth Bale receives treatment against Fulham

The Tottenham Hotspur star picked up an ankle injury in his club's 1-0 home defeat to Fulham on Sunday and wasn't involved in Chris Coleman's training session on Tuesday. But Wales are confident that Bale will be able to play against Gordon Strachan's men, with his absence just a precaution.

Wales teammate Sam Vokes said: "We think he is going to be fit, he is in and around the team and will be training in the next couple of days with Friday in mind."

The 23-year-old has been in blistering form for Spurs this season, scoring 16 Premier League goals to help Andre Villas-Boas' men to the brink of Champions League qualification.

And Burnley striker Vokes is fully aware of the importance and influence of Bale's presence after the ex-Southampton player scored twice late on in the reverse fixture against Scotland.

He continued: "It is fantastic to play alongside him, the last couple of goals I have scored for Wales have come from his assists, and in the Scotland game here he turned the game on its head.

"He has been different class for club and country for a while now, every game he plays in he is excellent and he will be a big player for us on Friday."
