Heitinga out to prove Everton doubters wrong

Under-fire Everton central defender Johnny Heitinga has vowed to prove his doubters wrong, and will not get off social network sites populated by Toffees fans despite some recent underwhelming performances, says the Daily Telegraph.

John Heitinga

The 29-year-old, who is one of only five players in history to be sent off in a World Cup final, is not affected by criticism from those who pay the ticket prices at Goodison Park to come and see him play.

The product of the Ajax youth team put in a forgettable performance in the home game with Aston Villa at the start of February, and was deemed culpable for all three goals the visitors scored in their entertaining 3-3 draw on Merseyside.

Heitinga even accepted on his Twitter account that he was poor that day, but also admits he uses social media tools to get closer to the supporters.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “I don’t really care what people say. I’m on Twitter because I want to show a little bit of myself to the supporters. I hope to get respect when I put something on Twitter and see people react positively.

If the response is only negative then the time will come when no-one is on Twitter anymore.

Heitinga joined Everton from Atletico Madrid for just over £6m four years ago, and has featured 130 times in all competitions for David Moyes’s side, scoring four times.
