Wenger wants talks with Hodgson over Wilshere’s England commitments

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to speak with his England counterpart Roy Hodgson over Jack Wilshere’s participation in the international friendlies scheduled for the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.

Jack Wilshere

Wilshere is currently absent with an ankle problem, forcing him to miss the World Cup qualification double-header against San Marino and Montenegro, with Wenger particularly careful over Wilshere’s fitness after the midfielder missed almost 18 months of action with a succession of injuries.

England are due to play the Republic of Ireland in late May - 10 days after Arsenal’s final game of the season - and will then travel to Brazil to play the 2014 World Cup hosts in Rio de Janeiro. Wenger is angling for a meeting with Hodgson and the Football Association to agree on how Wilshere should be used in the games after being angered that the 21-year-old played the entirety of the friendly between England and Brazil at Wembley in February.

Wenger is keen for Wilshere to get as much rest as possible this summer after returning from injury in October and playing 28 games thus far. Wilshere could return to playing at the end of March but the Mail believes Wenger will hold back the midfielder for another week or two.
