Phil Jones hopes to return from injury in time to line up against Chelsea for Manchester United in their FA Cup replay, the Daily Mail has reported.

Jones injured ankle ligaments in February and has been missing since, but was able to step up his training programme last week and has done so again recently. The match at Stamford Bridge is scheduled for April 1, giving Jones around two weeks to return, with Sir Alex Ferguson considering using the former Blackburn Rovers player in defence or as a midfielder.

The 21-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Blackburn in 2011 and has made 56 appearances for United, scoring twice. He made the switch to United after only 40 games for Rovers, having played his first league game for Blackburn against Chelsea, only a month after he turned 18.

Jones has also appeared for England, making his senior debut against Montenegro in October 2011 and going on to win five caps thus far for the Three Lions.
