Stoke City striker Peter Crouch has backed Michael Owen's decision to hang up his boots at the end of this season, insisting that he has achieved all he can, says Sky Sports.

Owen made the decision to retire earlier this week after enduring another season which has been plagued by injury, limiting him to just seven appearances in red and white.

His Potters teammate Crouch believes the 33-year-old is making the right decision in walking away from the game - but admits he will miss lining up alongside him for club and country.

Crouch said: "He has done everything in the game there is to do. He is held in the highest regard. I have played with Michael in the England squad previously and I always enjoyed playing with him.

"He is a top, world-class player. The goals he scored for England showed what a fantastic player he is. He has also been a fantastic ambassador for the game."

Owen will bring the curtain down on his illustrious playing days in the summer, having represented many of Europe's biggest clubs in his 17-year career, including Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool.

He made 89 appearances for his country, scoring 40 times - a tally which puts him fourth on England's all-time goalscorers list.
