The Armenia international has impressed for Mircea Lucescu's men this season, with Shakhtar dominating the Ukrainian Premier League and advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Mkhitaryan is under contract until 2015 but the 24-year-old is now keen to leave the Donbass Arena in an attempt to further his career.

Mkhitaryan said: "For every player to play for the strongest clubs in the world is a dream, and I will do everything possible to move this summer to a different team."

Chelsea are interested in signing the midfielder to replace Frank Lampard, whose contract comes to an end at the conclusion of this season.

Meanwhile City want to reshape their squad this summer, with Mkhitaryan, who has scored 32 goals in 63 appearances for Shakhtar, a possible target.
