Adidas Deal Arsenal Kit Blow

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit for a new kit manufacturer, with Adidas revealing they will not be making a bid for the production rights, reports The Daily Mail.

The Gunners are approaching the end of their current deal with Nike which expires at the end of next season, and are looking for a substantial increase on the reported £55m value of the seven year agreement they signed in 2007.

The move would bring an end to the 18 year partnership between Arsenal and Nike, but with mock up Arsenal shirts brandishing the three-stripe logo having circulated online it was thought that the club may have some extra leverage in their negotiations with the German manufacturing giants.

Arsenal feel short changed on their current deal with Nike, especially considering predictions that the American corporation’s next kit deal with rivals Man United is expected to reach the £1b mark.

Senior personnel at Adidas, however, have admitted that the company did consider making a bid to take over the manufacturing of the famous red shirt having been approached, but ultimately will not be taking their initial interest any further.

It would appear that the sum of cash requested by the Gunners may be the stumbling block, and the company believe they already possess a strong enough Champions League portfolio as they produce official kits for the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich.

They also handle many Premier League club’s kits including the likes of Swansea, Sunderland and West Brom, and are expected to soon take the mantle at West Ham as well.
