West Ham v Man Utd - Match preview and team news

Wednesday 17 April 2013

Manchester United will look to take three of the seven points they need to secure their 20th Premier League title at Upton Park on Wednesday evening.

The match represents the fourth time the two sides have played each other this season, with United taking the first by a tight 1-0 scoreline at Old Trafford, before two FA Cup third round ties ensued, eventually settled by another 1-0 scoreline in Manchester thanks to Wayne Rooney.

The England international could return to his usual striking position after lining up in the 2-0 victory at Stoke City on Sunday in midfield. That move means either Javier Hernandez or Robin van Persie, who returned to goalscoring form for the first time in 10 games at the Britannia with his 20th league strike of the season from the penalty spot, dropping to the bench.

Elsewhere, one of Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic may drop out for Jonny Evans or Chris Smalling but Ashley Young and Paul Scholes remain missing.

For the Hammers, Premier League football next season looks to have been all but secured following their point at Southampton on Saturday and so manager Sam Allardyce will be looking for his side to play with the shackles off against the champions-elect.

Allardyce has a doubt over central-defender James Tomkins, who faces a fitness test on a calf injury, and with Winston Reid and George McCartney also struggling, Emanuel Pogatetz could come into the fray.

Joe Cole (hamstring) and Mark Noble (shoulder) remain absent but Andy Carroll starts up front after scoring three times in his last two starts for the club.
