Swansea City have revealed that they plan to expand the capacity of the Liberty Stadium to 33,000, according to Sky Sports.

The Swans' ground currently holds 20,500 spectators but the club have submitted plans to the local council which would see an extra 12,500 supporters able to gain entry to the Welsh club's stadium.

Swansea are hoping to capitalise on stabilising their position in the Premier League over the past two seasons by maximising profits via match-day income.

A statement on the club's official website said: "The works proposed would see the extension of the North, South and East stands of the stadium in a phased manner over the next three to five years.

"The proposals seek to capitalise on the success of the football club during their first two seasons in the Barclays Premier League; help consolidate this status and remain part of the top flight for many years to come."

The Swans have enjoyed a meteoric rise over recent seasons, gaining promotion to the top division in 2011 under Brendan Rodgers and finishing in safe mid-table.

Current boss Michael Laudrup has built on that success, guiding the Jacks to a Capital One Cup victory.
