Enrique tips Coutinho to follow Suarez's example at Liverpool
Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes Philippe Coutinho will follow the example of Luis Suarez and become an important player at Anfield when he is fully adapted to Premier League football, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Brendan Rodgers paid £8.5m for the young Brazilian in January, signing Coutinho from Inter, and he has made a steady start in England, the newspaper adds. But Enrique believes that like Suarez, the best of Coutinho will come when he is more in tune with the demands of the English game.
“Luis had a really good year after just six months here,” Enrique said. “Now you can see the real Luis, with how many goals he scores. With Coutinho, it's going to happen the same, I think.
“You can see how well he is doing, but I think he's going to improve a lot more. And if he improves after what he has been doing already, he is going to be a top player for us.”
Enrique also praised Coutinho for his maturity despite being only 20-years-old, revealing: “He’s a really calm player. He doesn’t talk much, but he’s always joking. I really like him,” and confirming he feels a bond with his new teammate on the pitch as much as off it.
“It's easy to play with good players. Everyone says sometimes me and Luis link well,” Enrique continued. “With Coutinho, it's the same thing. He's a very good player. You can see his amazing talent and he's still really young.”
