Tottenham Hotspur scouts were among the interested parties watching Chelsea beat Basel in the first-leg of their Europa League semi-final, the Daily Mail has reported, with Mohamed Salah the focus of their attention.

Mohamed Salah against Spurs

Spurs were initially impressed by the Egyptian during their penalty shootout defeat to Basel in the previous round of the competition. The two-legged tie finished 4-4 on aggregate, with Salah a consistent danger to the Tottenham backline on account of his speed, the newspaper adds.

Basel are said to value Salah at around £10m, with Coach Murat Yakin saying the 20-year-old has almost every quality needed to succeed at the highest level. “If Mohamed could score as well, he would not be here anymore,” Yakin said of the player, who has six goals in 33 games this season.

Salah played for 78 minutes of Basel’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, the Premier League side coming out victorious thanks to goals from Victor Moses and David Luiz, the latter a free-kick converted in the final seconds of injury time.
