Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has warned Arsenal and other Premier League vultures that defender Matt Lowton is not for sale, reports the Metro.

Matt Lowton

The 23-year old right-back is reputed to be on Arsene Wenger’s summer shopping list after a hugely successful debut campaign in the top flight.

Lowton cost Villa just £3m when they snapped him up from Sheffield United last summer, but is worth considerably more after a very impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Lowton wowed fans with his recent performances at Villa Park, especially the key role he played as the Villains defeated Paolo Di Canio’s Sunderland side 6-1.

The full-back joined Sheffield Utd aged just 15; after a couple of loan moves he made his first team debut for the Blades in 2010, and over a two year period made 89 first team appearances.

Last summer the new Aston Villa manager noticed Lowton’s talents and wasted little time in bringing him to Villa Park.

Lambert commented: “You can’t stop people speculating. That’s football all over the world. But he’s our player.

“He’s been playing very well. If people are talking about him, that means he’s playing well.

“It becomes frustrating if you do have to lose ones when you’re trying to build. At the end of the day, the decision is my own if I let people go. That would always be the case.”
