Newcastle look set to make a move for wantaway QPR striker Loic Remy, and have launched an early bid in the hopes of stealing an advantage over fellow suitors, reports The Mirror.

Loic Remy

The Toon Army had attempted to sign Remy in the January transfer window, but he turned down a move to the North East, favouring a move to Harry Redknapp’s struggling Rangers. However, with QPR already relegated to the Championship next season, Remy has publically admitted he wants to leave.

The Magpies are believed to be willing to meet the 26-year-old’s £8m buyout clause, and it has been reported that they have already made their move in the hopes of getting a deal done before the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool come knocking on Remy’s door.

Remy, however, had earlier stated that he wanted to stay in London, and fancied a move to the Northern end of the town, with Arsenal his preferred destination.

Newcastle face QPR on Saturday afternoon still hoping to secure their own Premier League survival, and obviously whether or not they are successful in their bid to remain in the top flight will have large repercussions in their efforts to lure the Frenchman to St. James’ Park.
